I would not go with software raid no matter what you do. It is a system
resource hog beyond your wildest dreams. A raid controller is the way to
go, but unfortunatly, I've don't know off the top of my head what the
differences, advantages are between the different cards. Adaptec has been
a good company though the years, but like I said, I'm not sure about that.
But don't go for the software raid, it may be cheaper, but you will pay
for it double with lost performance.
