Netscape & Java

Does anybody know why Java doesn't work very well with Netscape?
Sometimes it just doesn't work, sometimes it hangs and sometimes it
causes all Netscape windows to close. Does it need to be tweeked,
reinstalled/updated or just shot in the head?
