Many programs use /tmp as scratch space. If you can get a command prompt, type "init 3". If not: Reboot to the LILO prompt, type "linux single". This will boot you into root mode. Either way, then: chmod 777 /tmp chmod +t /tmp reboot That should fix it, although you may want to read up on chmod to tighten it down later....
