MySQL WinXX and Linux

I was wanting to play around with MySQL in both a WindowsNT/2000 environment
and Redhat Linux.  The download page points out that the new version for
Windows platforms is 170 euros with a euro being $1.17.  Ouch!  I can see
that for folks who are doing development, but does anyone know of a more
limited version for hobbyist?
