I don't know about pppoe (whatever that is)...I simply use
dhcpclient (replacing the sucky pump). That's it. Dynamic
ip is not a problem (leave ip, DNS, gateway, etc, entries in
inetcfg blank - dhcp handles all that).

I have RH 6.1 with USWest DSL. They use dhcp too so there
should be no real difference. They also do not explicitly
support linux but that hasn't been a problem for me at all.
As for masquerading...my DSL "modem" does that. Are you
sure it is necessary to do it on your box as well? I am
assuming that the Bell Atlantic DSL router box ("modem")
does this as well. USWest supplied me with a Cisco 675
router and it does masquerading by default.

Subject: DSL QUESTION

when i first got dsl set up Bell Atlantic was giving out static ip's.
recently two of my friends decided to get dsl, but BA stuck them with
dynamic ip's over pppoe. BA provides support for windows and MAC OS, but
not for linux... i am pretty sure that the same can been done by using one
of the pppoe implementations that are available on freshmeat.net. problem
is how is this set up. has anyone been able to set this up to work
properly??? i have gone through the setup and read all of the faq's and
how-to's i could find, but still have not been able to successfully set
anything up that works. how do i set up eth0 to take the ip that is giving
to it from the BA dhcp server, this machine will be running ip-masqudering
so any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks
