My Redhat 6.1 machine has been completely locking up on me
since I installed a new scsi controller (Buslogic/Mylex
BT-930 PCI). This has been happening when I try and write
something close to the capacity of my tape drive (2 Gb, it's
an HP 35480A). But I also accidentally filled up my hard
drive recently, and it also completely locked up.

When I say lock up, I mean completely. Even the
mouse-pointer freezes, and I have to do a hard boot. On the
other hand, I don't have a another machine around to try and
telnet in, but I really do have the feeling that that
wouldn't work. For example, when I filled up the disk, the
hard drive light was stuck in the on-position.

I've checked to make sure that this happens outside of
Xwindows (it's not some sort of problem like filling up /tmp
and hosing the window manager.)

I have noticed that when I'm doing a
   tar cvf /dev/st0 /
It tends to die in the middle of trying to write the "/proc"
stuff, but currently I'm figuring that's just coincidence.

Does this ring any bells? What should I be looking for to
nail this down?
