Ever since I installed RH 5.1 and subsequently RH 6.0 on a laptop, I have
had the following problem. Under X (with any of KDE, FVWM, or Gnome), but
not at the console, the keyboard and mouse occasionally freeze for no
apparent reason. The system continues to process jobs, but the only way out
is to reboot. I was thinking that this might be an X problem until I
remembered that under Windows95 on the same machine, the system would
occasionally freeze. When I look in /var/log/messages, there is no clue to
what is going on...all the entries prior to the freeze appear to be for jobs
that were completed, and these are followed by the rebooting messages. The
problem is intermittent, in that I haven't figured out a reproducible way of
bringing it on.
Any ideas either to fix or to figure out what the problem is?
