Not sure about RH 6.0, but after turning off PNP on the 3c509b, I
re-installed RH 6.1. I can't recall now if
the install found the NIC, or if I had to add it afterwards, but RH 6.1
definitely has problems with this card.

Well, you've confirmed that I have done the NIC configuration correctly. I
did use the 3com configuration program and turned of PNP, set the IRQ to 10
and the I/O to 0x210. Now comes the funny part that confuses me. When
installing RH6.0 today, it does an autoprobe for the NIC card once I
identify
that it should find a3C509. The install finds it just fine and Viola!, I
finish the NIC configuration restart the system after the installation is
complete. I ping my DNS and I find it. I'm up and running fine.
What confuses me though, is the RH6.1 install doesn't do an autoprobe for
the NIC. When I setup the NIC with the correct information using the
"netconfig" or within "Linuxconf", I am unable to reach the network. I'm
apparently overlooking something or is this a problem with the RH6.1
install
when dealing with 3c509 cards? Could someone clarify this for me?
I think that once I have setup my RH6.0 install and it is working on the
network, I could do a RH6.1 upgrade of my RH6.0 system and maybe this would
be
a work around. This isn't very efficient and obviously fixes whatever I'm
overlooking.
Another thought comes to mind. Is there some daemon in RH6.1 that isn't
started but is in RH6.0?
One last thing and that is these installs are all the RH canned
workstation
installs. For RH6.1 I went with GNOME installation for now.
Hope my conversation isn't confusing and provides some light to my
situation.
