I just purchased an APC Back-UPS Pro 420 and you can download Powerchute for
Linux from APC (ftp.apcc.com/apc/public/software/unix/linux/pcplus/452/). It
comes in an rpm for RedHat, glibc and libc tar balls. They ask for
registration but its quick (that is on their web site, nothing about the
actual software. I believe it is just a port of the other UNIX clients. It
will run as a daemon and you can use the X app to get info from it (Line
voltage and Load are constant, but you can configure a third bar for battery
voltage, time left, etc.
The software availability was _the_ deciding factor for me. It cam with 2
serial cables (one black, one gray, it says to use the gray one, what's the
black one for?)
