I have come across a problem with a PS/2 mouse before. I hope the experience
helps! This is what happens.
1. I installed RedHat 6.0 from CD.
2. The system insist that I use a PS/2 mouse, even though I have a serial
mouse plugged in, and choosed Generic Mouse or Serial Mouse.
3. The system will hang if I don't plug in a PS/2 mouse. A serial mouse will
not do.
4. I tried the same exercise with RedHat 5.2, same result.
I come to the conclusion that since my PC have a chip set which has a PS/2
mouse port build in, The kernel automatically detects a PS/2 mouse port and
ignores any setting I may have. And then proceed to re-boot the kernel
unless I actually plug in a PS/2 mouse.
If this is your problem, I believe the only solution is to plug in a PS/2
mouse card and install a PS/2 mouse.
