Sorry that i cannot help you solving your prob, but cxi printers from HP
are not always winprinters. I have the HP DJ 895Cxi that runs smoothly with
Linux and even prints out the ps-tiger in colours when i set the printer up
as a HP DJ 5xx colour printer. I dunno exactly about the HP DJ 855 Cxi
printer, but have a look into your manual on the pages with the technical
details or printing in DOS, if it only states that you can print within a
windows dos box u have a windows printer....i have to say that it is very
hard to figure out which HP printer is not a winprinter and i got into a
hard infight with HP Europe with that and this company hasn't responded
since two months on my last letter......somehow they don't like Linux or
sell enough printers.
You can also take a look at the redhat website and figure out if the
printer is supported, if it is not a winprinter and it should be somehow be
supported the error is somewhere else, besides that there is a website
about HP PPA printers that comes along with somehow a driver for windows
printers, i haven't tried it out (i sold my DJ 720c and got the
895Cxi).....just forgot what url it is.
Anyways, if setting up things in Linux would be easier, many problems
would never appear, but i guess i am asking to much for config tools .
Linux is great but somehow aggrevating, that's why i switched my linux box
on the last time a month ago. :/ Sorry, i'm drifting off-topic
.....uh, btw, the Sony Cassette Library Management Systems for TV stations
(the machines that change the video cassettes) will be run with Linux in
the future, it is amazing what Linux can do !
