use the printer configurator in the control panel in X. i use pppd to
connect instead of dip. theres a really good example script in
/etc/pp/ its called ppp-on and ppp-off. thats how i get online.

Theres a GUI of emacs, and theres also a notepad lookalike but it
isn't any good.
rc.d is your equivalent to autoexec.bat i believe. i'm new to this
also though, you can also use .bashrc to load things like aliases.
that acts as sort of a autoexec.bat
