Assuming it is the usual Intel:-

Is the new device recognised by the bios of your scsi controller?

Does your kernel recognise the scsi controller and devices
attached to same?
Check /var/log/messages and visit /proc/scsi.

Possibly. 
But more informtion would lead to a more accurate answer.

/dev/st{n}, /dev/rst{n} and maybe even /dev/tape.
