Oh, my... Flame war here we come. My question is that if you are such an "advit" (do you mean avid) Windows user, then what are you doing on this list in the first place? Don't get me wrong, I am not a "Windows Sucks" person. My primary workstations are running XP. Having said that, I use linux wherever it makes sense, like on my web/email/dns/dhcp/samba servers. It's not about affordability, it's about what makes the best business sense. I can shell out thousands for Windows2000 server licensing (plus a box that is sufficiently powerful), or I can download the Redhat ISO's and pay a nominal fee for priority updates (a fee that isn't required, I might add). For me, it just makes sense to use an OS on my servers that is stable, relatively secure, and basically free.
The most important point I want to make is that the purpose of these lists is for people to gain information and to learn from others who have been through the same stuff before. It is not (and should not) be a forum for the ignorant to display to the mass public just how ignorant they really are. I installed windows and i only had to reboot once, and you dont have to reboot after changing your screen rez you newb you set it up so it applys the settings with out rebooting, if you dont like windows than you should go with the open source joke called linux. I am a advit windows user and will be for the rest of my life. No matter what you say you put a sound, network card, and video card in xp turn on your xp box and it finds all the drivers for you and you dont need to reboot, (found new hardwared, ten seconds go by, your new hardware is ready to use) now where did you reboot in that case goof. The only reason why you knock windows is because it is the domoninat operating system and you just cant afford it. So take your no job ass and go and download Linux and go on a fake windows box... >From: Me <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Subject: Re: Linux vs Windows >Date: Thu, 27 Mar 2003 01:38:42 -0500 (EST) > >Ever try installing Windows XP on a computer that is not bottable from >CD? > >You need no less than 6 floppies.
