I replied to the poster off-list ..but wanted to point out that certs in the UNIX/linux world are about worthless at the moment. I've been lookin for a job for 7 months, applied to about 70 positions, had about 20 interviews, came *really* close(I think) to getting a job at a local company yesterday but alas no. I have no certs, but have a great deal of skills & experience. I've been managing networks and systems since 1996, experience in every commercial version of UNIX except SCO, about a dozen flavors of linux, and so much more, but it hasn't gotten me a job yet...real close sometimes though. And with all my interviews I have only heard the word cert mentioned in a small fraction of them. I know if I was interviewing people, I wouldn't care what cert they had either if it was for a system admin/similar position on linux/unix systems. But really, I don't know how it is in other parts of the country but I see more jobs posted that require top secret clearance then I see jobs asking for RHCE or even Solaris certifications. I may of seen the RHCE mentioned less then half a dozen times over probably 400 jobs I've looked at. Solaris certs maybe a dozen or 2 dozen times. certs are requested more often in the networking area, esp cisco, i see a lot of jobs that request CCNA/CCNP/CCIE/etc. And the MS world, lots of requests for MCSE/MCP/etc. As I mentioned to the original poster off-list, if the job market in other parts of the country is anything like it is here, your not gonna get a job with a RHCE and minimal experience, unless you really lowball your way in at under $25k. Theres too many senior level people out of work at the moment and companies can take their pick of the most experienced. But most of the senior folks won't even go for a job at $25k(I won't, my last position was triple that), so you have less competition at that price point. assuming you can find a company that will talk to you at all. practice practice practice, learn as much as you can as fast as you can. Every bit helps. It helps more if you have a good home network to practice on(my network is 14 systems on a 1mbit line). good luck to all those unemployed out there..! nate (unemployed and loving it..not!) oh..and I'm in washington state. in MS's backyard, so close I can almost spit on them(their HQ is 3 miles away). moved here in 3/2000 from california. -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
