You've been a LOT more help than the "cdrecord-support-list" folks have been... I'll try changing the cable. As it happens there are only two SCSI devices besides the SCSI adapter....and one of those is an SCA hard drive connected via an SCA->50pin SCSI "daughter card." I wonder if that may not be loose. I'll have to check that... In any event, I'll try changing the cable and see if that changes anything. I think I'll also try updating the SCSI bios to see if that makes any differece... Thank... John
