Dear Andy,

as far as I know how it works in RH 7.3, you can change hostname of a
computer editing the file /etc/sysconfig/network.
Using "hostaname" command make the change for current session only. Then you
have to edit the /etc/host accroding to new name. If I understood the
problem this is a solution.
