The previous post from a previous person mentioned getting the correct rpm for your platform. Yes, this is a pain. However, it is a pain that Synaptic and apt once you do find the correct rpms for your platform strive to relieve. Listen, it is not a complete panacea. I understand that the way certain packages are split and the dependencies are laid out need to one day be re-vamped for easier installation of most common packages. I am not denying this in the least. However, find the right rpms and you will have a very nice package management tool.
