Red Hat has, several times in the past, expressed that they will support
a distribution for "at least 12 months", and never more than that.
Until now, they've provided support for some releases for considerably
longer than that, but they have never promised to continue to do so.
Everyone who didn't see this coming hasn't been paying attention.

A 12 month support life, and Red Hat's release schedule, have always
implied that an x.0 release will be de-supported at approximately the
time that the x.2 release is made, and an x.2 release won't be supported
quite long enough for an (x+1).2. Yes, I think that sorta sucks. I
would have hoped that a release which marks the end of a major series
(e.g 7.3) would be supported a little longer than other releases,
because shops tend to settle on such things. However, we were never
promised that. 7.3 is actually being supported well longer than the
promised 12 months, right up until I'd expect an 8.2 release to be made
(but even that is speculation... there's no such thing as 8.2 ;)

Maybe Red Hat will extend the life of 7.3, and maybe they won't. I'm
not upset either way. I know that *someone* will be making errata
releases for 7.3 for some time, because I'll be doing it if no one else
is (though I suspect that Matthias Saou is likely to do so).
