I can't imagine the problem. I did have problems with Metro-X and
stopped using it. I've also had a few with others when modelines were
screwy. But, I always got some kinda error message when things went
wrong. Or, I always knew what was wrong because I gave the
panic-exit(tm) to get outta there when it looked like things might
explode.
The only freezing I ever got (other than when Netscape uses up all my
resources) was once or twice when gpm was running when I started X. Have
you tried turning that off? It's been known to crash more than on
instance of X.
