Hi,
Has anyone had trouble running X when not root. As a non root user I
get a server crash with the following output (in its entirety) but no X:

Yes, I did. To cure it I had to delete some file (I can't remember
its name - fvwm and some numbers) in /tmp. I would suggest deleting all
files dealing with fvwm immediately after booting (as root). Then login
as user and try X.
