Quite usable. I'm typing on it right now.

Bummer #1: The upgrade procedure doesn't work well :-(. I had a fairly standard
RH 5.0 setup here at home. Once I upgraded, half the config tools started
dumping core left and right. This was at 1:30am, so I didn't bother with
figuring out why it was doing this -- I just did "format /dev/sda2" and started
over again (my /home etc. live on other partitions so a complete reinstall is
pretty painless for me). Ah. I remember what dumped now. linuxconf dumped
trying to set up a PPP connection. GPM also hung on bootup and on shutdown.
But, as I mentioned, I didn't bother trying to figure out why -- I just
reinstalled.

Bummer #2: The promised linuxconf via HTTP doesn't appear to work. netstat -a
doesn't detect anything listening on the promised socket.

Pluses:
It's nice that it uses "real" AfterStep rather than an AfterStep-looking
fvwm2 config. It'd be nicer if it allowed switching to olvwm, but I understand
that olvwm doesn't like switching back :-(. (I no longer run olvwm, but olvwm
was what I first learned "X" on, back in SunOS days). Actually, I don't use
AfterStep either (I use KDE), but when the Gnome project actually produces a
desktop useful for everyday work rather than interesting proofs of concept, I
expect that I'll be seeing a lot of AfterStep. (Sorry, Raster, no Enlightenment
in my future -- eye candy ain't my thrill).

The ElectricEyes program is a nice alternative to XV. Actually has
DOCUMENTATION, wonders of wonders (XV doesn't appear to have any). This is, of
course, part of the Gnome project -- I never said that ALL of the Gnome project
was vaporware :-).

The version of LinuxConf included here doesn't appear to include a lot of the
stuff that "real" LinuxConf includes, but unlike the "real" one, it doesn't
hijack your init script with its runlevel silliness. This is nice for
me because I always set up my lilo.conf to handle runlevel (e.g. I set
up "linux5" as the default with an 'append="5"' argument to make it go
to runlevel 5 without me having to type anything at the command line,
as well as having good ole' "linux" there for when I want to type
"linux single" or whatever).

The manual actually makes a stab at explaining basic system administration,
wonder of wonders.

In the past I haven't had luck getting the "bootable CD" to actually boot.
Wonder of wonders, it booted for me this time! (In fairness, I suspect
my system configuration was at fault, because the biggest difference
is that I totally reconfigured my system when I added the SCSI drives
to it).
