Sure, I do this all the time because I have only a 1280 meg disk, so
when I have to craving to play DOS or Windows games, I just compress or
delete enough to free a partition, then just change the partition type
in fdisk, and then boot off a floppy with format.com et al. DOS format
knows to format the partition that is the correct hex type (you'll see
these in fdisk).
Of course, a few days later, I am crammed in Linux and need to remake it
an ext2fs, but then it's months before I crave games again...I really
need a new disk :)
