I certainly second this. The docs certainly seem to be geared to those who need to
have every detail explained along the way. I don't mind this as long there are docs
that also have the focus of a simple, get up and go approach then give the detail
later. Too often I have sat down to install something and realized the detail was to
deep for a one hour endeavor..

As all of you are talking about Linux becoming ever so popular, it is especially
important to know why some are not using Linux and it may be the turn off of the "too
high tech syndrome". Perhaps one might argue we don't want the people who don't want
such power and control over their systems, well, then don't sell RH5 at Best Buy...
It is those people who want the basics to work quickly who get terribly turned off at
thirty-two pages of HOWTO docs just for e-mail. Being a former techy, I don't mind
(as long as a have a few hours to kill)

I am having a great time with Linux, but seven weeks have passed and I have spent a
disproportionate amount of time getting just rudimentary things working... I wish I
was able to have perl and cgi scripts and my web page development by now, but instead
I am patting myself on the back for making my mouse work... I would be happy to help
create mini-howto's...

Ok.....specifics please. And on a side note. The documentation Ive been reading
from LDP and on the Red Hat CD I have (how-to's and such) tend to be very
detailed and very technical. My point being this if Fetchmail, Cron and IMAP
are what Ive described as method to the desired goal couldnt someone ( I plan
to...soon as I get it figured out) submit a step by step mini-how to. I love
reading and learning about Linux but I must admit since our community has so

NOT COMPLAINING mind you, just I would like to see in the future more of an
emphasis on the mini-how to's and refrence the longer more educational indepth
How-to's.

Seems to me better way to learn how something works is to start with a positive
result (meaning a working task) then go back to the indepth stuff to learn what
ya actually accomplished and why.

Anyway Paul I am intrested on how your doing this if you would like you can
continue this on the list or privatly with me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] And when Im
finished and have it working I'll write up a mini-how to on the subject for
others and submit it to the LDP.

Thanks.
