I tried to add some user accounts to my redhat machine today with little
success. I read somewhere that the thing to do was set up a file called
/etc/adduser.conf that would provide all the necessary defaults. Then,
I just typed in

adduser houze

with "houze" being the desired userid. I expected a prompt for the
password but all I got was another prompt. I checked the dir structure
and found a /home/houze directory populated with copies of the files in
/etc/skel but that's all -- nothing in /etc/passwd, /var/spool/mail, etc.

I tried using deluser to get rid of what I created but it wasn't recognized.

Now what? Do I manually make an entry in /etc/passwd? And if so, what
do I use for a passwd since it's encrypted in that file??
