you'll probably run out of file handles if you don't modify the kernel. we had
that problem during a network outtage when sendmail tried to dequeue the jammed
mail. and we only have ~300 users.

no prob. we use a p133 w/ 64 mb for 300 mail users, squid, DNS, radius and some
accounting.
