hello ports@ attached is a port of the conservative doom sourceport chocolate-doom.
from DESCR: Chocolate Doom is a portable branch of the classic doom.exe experience from the days of DOS. The author, Simon Howard, has worked to insure Chocolate Doom, which is nothing more than a directly modified version of the released iD Software source code, has zero changes that affect gameplay, look, or feel, and also re-created a DOS-like setup program to configure the game much like the original setup.exe. Chocolate Doom provides: chocolate-doom - the game chocolate-setup - the game setup program chocolate-server - server for up to 4-player net games Due to the port re-implimenting the original game as closely as possible, all original game PWADs and demos work flawlessly. Other original features include a PC-speaker driver written with OpenBSD in mind, just like the DOS PC-speaker driver, and a working -left and -right network command parameter system for the 'surround display' setup that was obtainable with the original DOS executables over an IPX network. To play the game you will need an original Doom, Ultimate Doom, Doom II or Final Doom IWAD. The Shareware IWAD is available at: ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/doom/doom-1.8.wad.gz Check the chocolate-*(6) manpages for additional information. tested on i386, please comment as this is my first port. I will be keeping on top of this in terms of maintaining. I have several other ports I have been working on however I want to start with oneto make sure I am making best use of the infrastructure. earlier there were some doubts on why we need 'another doom engine'; all I can say is the goals of prboom and chocolate-doom are quite different, chocolate-doom is intended to shoot you back to 1993/1994 and deliver an an authentic experience NOT with added features or increased limits. regards, -ryan
