Dale, I would suspect one or more of the system fans are either not spinning, or spinning too slowly for the system to stay running. Most likely the only way to check that will be to open it up and start it while it's open. My laptop has two fans, both of which have to be spinning for the system to boot fully. It also could be dust bunnies which would have the same symptoms.
