However.

On widescreens it is easier to get two usefully-sized windows side-by-side.
So, for me at least, while there are net fewer pixels for a particualr size
measurement (Who pays attention to actual physical size anyway? So long as
it's "big enough" I only care about native resolution), they are arranged in
a more useful configuration, which ends up being a net win. Of course, this
is something that the math does not reveal, so I fought converting to
widescreens for a good long time. Now that I've gotten used to working that
way (and have a substantial workload that benefits from working that way)
doing anything on my last 4:3 display (on a Think X61) is almost comically
frustrating. So long as I have at least 1000 vertical pixels I'm happy. You
can have my widescreen displays when you rip them from my cold, dead hands.
