I have tried all kinds of music players on the various versions of
Ubuntu that I have used over the years. Currently I am using Rhythmbox,
and it works well. However, I seldom add or delete mp3 files.

I hear you. But if you go streaming internet you have a vast selection
of stations. As I write this I am listening to Radio Classique
streaming from Paris. I listen to nothing but classical, except for the
KMHD trad jazz on Saturday and Sunday. Mike's Radio World
(http://www.listenlive.eu/index.html) has 3,000 streaming stations from
Europe to choose from, and there are tons more from other areas.

I just wish I could get the same streaming stations in the car and
while out hiking.
