Last time i tried Amarok, it was a hassle to use with Gnome. i've played
with Banshee on & off, but it seems a bit under-featured and bloated
from the resource-usage perspective. For the last couple of years i've
used Rhythmbox to my library, even though i find it lacking in other
areas (podcast management is so-so, ripping from cd is inexplicably
slow). I use SoundJuicer to rip from my cd collection (all the music on
my iPod is from my full-fidelity, uncompressed, 99% paid-for cd
collection).

i really like gtkpod for getting stuff on & off the iPod - it's simple
and straightforward, and extremely reliable (it's never corrupted the
iPod db, unlike iTunes itself), and lets me use th iPod's lovely, highly
usable UI. Most importantly, it doesn't bind my device to a specific
iTunes library. Ogg support isn't an issue for me, though.

my $.02,
Joe
