OK, belay that, apparently was because my Mesa install was lacking Wayland support (because I had built it against an older Wayland install). Curiously, most KDE apps are decorated with a WM theme that doesn't look like any I have installed, while Firefox gets that titlebar that I configured (and that everyone gets in normal X11 operation; breeze). Also see https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=423862 Finally, trying to start kwin_wayland from a virtual tty gives me a permissions error about /dev/drm/card0, even when there is no X11 server running. In itself this is correct given the permissions on that device file, but I hesitate to change them for fear the X11 will refuse to restart afterwards. R.
