How about cutting a piece of aluminum foil twice the size of the card so that
the card would sandwich between the leaves when you fold it in half?

Maybe if the bank has one of those "paper" sleeves for cards you could glue the
foil to the outside?
I'd talk to the bank again and see if they will give you a RFID sleeve for your
card as a courtesy ... giving away the sleeves would cost them less than giving
away toasters.
I did a quick google search for "sleeve for credit card to prevent contactless
reading" - got a hit from Amazon, so I searched Amazon for RFID blocking sleeves:
https://www.amazon.com/s?k=rfid+blocking+sleeves&i=office-products&crid=IORKDXG7RWMQ&sprefix=RFID%2Coffice-products%2C203&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_1_4
I also did a search for "LeSportsac lanyard" to get an idea what they were like
and I pretty sure cards inside RFID sleeves should fit inside.
And then ... because anything worth doing is worth OVER-doing ... Do RFID
protective sleeves work?

Apparently some do, and some are better than others.

I tried .. I went to the bank today to ask if they could remotely turn off the
switch as Mike had reported he had beena ble to do in England.. but
as you say below, P.J. , disrupting it somehow would also disable the chip and
strip - the gal at th e bank pointed out to me that the "swish"
feature was imbedded right under the chip .
but MIke's suggestion of having two swishables in my purse next to each other
would confuse a reader and nothing would get processed... although
I seldom carry more than one card so if somethin untoward occurs only one of my
credit/debit cards is affected.
I really love my pretty little LeSportsac lanyardlike thingy.. if I can find a
small enough one that has the protective stuff sewn in and is not
too heavy I'll switch.

You could do worse than just cash. Unfortunately anything that I can think of
that would disable the contactless system on your card would probably also
disable the chip and swipe strip at the same time. The banks and government
really want you to be traceable in all your economic transactions abet for
somewhat different reasons.
This really annoys me, so I try to tell them to stuff themselves as often as
possible, and cash is the hardest thing to trace. It also can't be
automatically deducted from your wallet as yet.

I do have a sleeve.. it just makes my mini purse a bit crowded..
At the moment I"m just swinging it around to my back when I get on a bus
and sadly I see that the little symbol is in fact lined up with the swipe
strip..
may have to go back to carrying just cash

I don't think you can disable near field communicationo have a sleeve
without taking the
card apart. About the only option is a sleeve that blocks the signal.

Intro:
we are now issued credit and debit cards with a little "speaker" symbol
on them so that one can be totally contactless when using a card.. just
swish your card on the vicinity of/ over the designated reader and it
takes your money. IN NY we have these things called an OMNI reader on
busses and subways. since I am a senior I have my own card which one
still has to swipe because the Omni machine is reading your regular
credit crds and doesn't know you are old. HOwever that does not keep
the OMNI machine which is often located right next to the metrocard
slot, from reading a credit card that gets close to it. bottom line..
MY debit card is in a lanyard that hangs on my neck
and at a level that , when I leaned forward to dip my metrocard got too
close to the OMNI reader and releaved me of $2.75 ..
NOw I have to pay especially close attention to my money so I found what
happened and eventually got my money back and was told I should keep my
credit cards in those protective sleeves they make for passport cards.
I also can't get another card without the chip in it that lets you swish
instead of insert a card ...
anyone know how I can disable that feature without disabling my regular
chip or swipe strip? IT is at the opposite end of the card from the
regular chip and not near the
swipe strip.
Thanks
