Well done, Sherlock!
In future you could try one of Cotty's drones for a close up.

Yeah, that head is very distinctive.
Best, Paul!

I suspect you're right. The "eagle photo" I found on line is probably a
turkey vulture as well, they look good when you can't see the head!

It looks like a turkey vulture to me Paul, we've had several circling for

The color is right, although the feathers st the end of the wings are
different. But looking at the bird guide pic I posted I see some red on
the head as well. Perhaps that pic is incorrectly identified? Most of
the eagle pics don't have that much white. You could be right. I've
never seen a turkey vulture here, but would think there are some.

Ok, I'll do that, but I'm sending a shot of a pair of turkey vultures.
Note the red heads also.

Go to google. Click on images. Then search bald eagle underside. Some
are completely different, but several are a perfect match for this.
Hawks aren't even close. I didn't look at Falcons. I probably should.

Nice raptor catch, Paul.
I can't get at my saved images at this
time and my field guide does not
show the underside of the included Bald, but I'd be surprised to find
solid white on or under a Bald even if just
approaching maturity. With the
number I've seen in the wild along
with the couple dozen my pro friend,
Brian Shul, has displayed and those he has sent to me for comment, I
can't help but doubt the one you shot is a bald. If not, so what?
Still a good
good size raptor that may be a non
typical Bald.(?)

I saw some kind of Raptor circling several hundred feet above my yard
this afternoon. I pulled my camera off the tripod and did a handheld
shot with my 150-450 and 1.4X converter mounted — about 630 mm.
Shutter speed was at 1,000th. Turned focus manually to infinity and I
think the camera locked on as well. But the result is less than 20%
of frame. I assumed it was a hawk, but when I rendered it I could see
if it’s no hawk i know. Matches up well to bad eagle underside pics
on the web. Fun stuff.
