I think all camera with shutters need some regular use. I have a dozen or so cameras in a display case. I regularly fire them all off a few times. I don't know if the SDM lenses benefit from regular use or not. I just know mine are excellent. I have noticed that some people appear to have far more problems than others. Perhaps it's climate. I don't know.
