I know it's cemented optical glass on a gelatin filter, and all but Tiffen's #87 is less expensive and a real Wratten equivalent, which will supposidly give you better results. If you're looking for a screw in filter the 49 and 55mm mm sizes are half the price of any others at B&H..

The internet is full of anti Pentax readings, not hard to find,, just
ask Ricehigh.

I shoot both Nikon and Pentax Dslr's and i can honestly say i have to
post process less on my K10D shots than my D200 or D2H shots. Colour
is a lot nicer out of the box so to speak.
You won't get much for your istD anyway. Buy a Hoya R72 filter and
have some IR fun.

Hi folks,

I haven't posted here in a long time (couple years maybe?), mostly 'cos my
life and job got way too busy and I had a lot less time for photography (and
much PDML reading). Recently things have got a lot better, and I am a lot
more enthused about taking pictures again (and reading PDML of course!).

However, recently I got tired of looking at my old *istD sat idle and
thought about selling it. I mentioned it to a co-worker and he was initially
enthusiastic. Then I got this mail...

Chris I think I will give your Pentax a miss. I have been looking at
sample photos on the internet and they all have something in common,
that they look a little harsh to me and the colours are not easy on
the eye. That's what I like about my Fuji camera, the pictures are
soft and natural looking.
Now, I don't mind that he doesn't want it - that's fine and I am not
entirely sure I want to sell it anyway, but I get the feeling he might be
dissing my wee camera a bit too much here? :) Harsh and the colours not easy
on the eye? Has anyone ever come across that opinion of Pentax 'look & feel'
before? Should I thump him? BTW I have no idea what Fuji he's on about but
it's not a DSLR.

The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or
drinking; he can ruin himself with gambling. If he does he is certainly a damn
fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a
free man any more than a dog.
