This morning, I was talking with JB, a friend and coworker about my
debate on whether to get the K20D at San Jose Camera and support real
camera shops, and the state of California, or to buy it of the net and
save $30 on the camera and $60 in sales tax.

He decided that he needed to come with me to San Jose Camera and make
sure that I didn't shirk my duty, and fail to buy a camera
today. While we were there, he then dropped $430 or so on a SB900
flash for his D700.

At lunch, I placed on the table my K20D with 18-250, My K100D super
with DA40 and my FA31. I felt that those 2 bodies and 3 lenses do a
very good job of expressing the strengths of Pentax. But, without
going into those subtleties, I pointed at the array of camera gear and
said, "That cost me about what you paid for your D700 body".

Mind you, I'm not disparaging the D700. If I had $2700 to drop on a
camera body, I'd own one. There are shots it'll get that my gear
won't, but it is an interesting contrast between performance and
value.
