I use my tripod when I want to carefully compose a photograph, like, say, a wedding. I recently purchased a product called Trek-Pod Go that combines a walking staff, monopod, or tripod. When I visited the Big Island of Hawaii, the Trek-Pod Go helped to steady me when I walked over lava fields - and my Pentax *ist D when I needed to compose a shot.
