Not sure how you used the 322RC, Bob, that you found it difficult.

I use right hand on the grip to move camera into position, assisting  
with the left on the lens for rough focus (if manual focus) and zoom  
control. Then move my right hand to the camera body once position is  
achieved (locking the head) and work exposure controls, final focus  
and zoom with both hands. Once set, I'm away from the camera and  
release the shutter with a remote.

I sold all my Manfrotto heads, though, and replaced them with Kirk  
Photo, Acratech and Markins heads which I find much more precise.  
However, I still appreciate the ease and speed of the 322RC2 grip in  
terms of getting camera position locked in. I imagine the 322RC2  
would not work for follow focus and sporting event activities very  
well since you have your hand on the grip portion of the head rather  
than the body when moving the camera position, but I use a monopod  
for those kinds of things with a simple rubber flex head mount rather  
than a tripod and ball head.
