Actually on reflection, I apologise for being so terse. Let me expand. For art that moves and engages me, it has to be more than just a command of technique. It needs to cut through the noise of imagery that bombards us every day. So in one sense I root for the underdog...the amateur who points a P&S to capture just the perfect moment of emotion that can never be captured again. The harried ACMP hack who manages to capture a moment in history that is both layered aesthetically, moves worlds politically, and 50 years from now, when the advertising agencies are but dust, still resonate emotionally has my applause. The winners of WPP do that for me pretty consistently. Annie Leibovitz (with the honorable exception I have already noted) does not. I don't think sober criticism of a photographer's style (and commercial baggage) constitutes an ad hominem attack.
