No, there is no secret.  Just select type DVD-ROM (ISO or UDF), drop the 
folders and burn.  I am not familiar with PowerDVD, it seems to be a 
audio/video DVD orientated software.  So make sure it supports data DVD 
burning.  Another thing is make sure you have not checked "Test" or 
"Simulation" mode - otherwise, it would just be a test burn with nothing 
actually burned onto the disc.

I, myself, usually use Nero Burning ROM or ImgBurn 
(http://www.imgburn.com/). Nero has a nicer file selection screen; while 
ImgBurn has a better burning engine and it is free.  You can build and 
burn data DVD in its latest version.  So if PowerDVD does not get you 
anywhere, give ImgBurn a try.

For DVD archiving, please use high quality DVD discs and use multiple 
copies.  DVD may not last very long (especially cheaper brands). 
Research which brand DVD suits your DVD Drive best.
