They allow it with an actuator pin. Think of it as the reverse of a K lens. We mount the lens and it opens up, they mount the lens and it can then stop down if the actuator arm is deflected. Even if the FD mount wasn't suitable for adapting, they still broke your cardinal rule about the importance of long term support for their lenses.
