False, mechanical can be more reliable
Than electronic in some sitations. It all depends on 
Good engineering. Bad engineering is what causes
Problems, not necessarily whether its
Mechanical or electronic.

One company I worked for is selling lots of products
Designed before WWII today because they are
Electromechanical ( mechanical moving parts )
And are MORE long term reliable than the electronic
Versions that TRIED to replace them. This
Is especially true under harsh environmental
Condtions.

I bet the why and wherefores has a lot to do with making cameras more 
electronic and less mechanical as a design philosophy.
Its the moving parts that cause problems.
