There is a huge number of people who buy on price alone, and then have problems that they blame on the wrong thing. My local camera sales guy has told me of more than a few customers who complain that their Pentax DSLR's are battery hogs, and they aren't buying into the theory that a lithium battery at 4 times the price is a good investment. It's easier to complain about the equipment. I haven't seen lithium AA batteries on the shelf at any stores in several years either, so for a lot of people, they don't exist.
