> Pentax FA 300/2.8 non-is $US4550 (accepting orders)

Keep in mind that Pentax doesn't have the mass production capabilities that
Canon has. Obviously, Canon's production cost is much lower than Pentax's,
and therefore their final prices are also going to be much lower.

Plus, since Canon lenses are in MUCH higher demand than Pentax's, the price
competition amongst sellers like B&H and other major retailers is going to
drive the prices down that much further. I can't tell you Canon's NET
pricing for their lenses (I do have access to this info at work, btw), but
suffice to say, B&H's profit margin on such lenses is very, very slim. They
can afford to charge more for Pentax because they're not such hot sellers.

Even still, I had to turn away a couple list members who wanted to buy
lenses from me because we just can't match B&H's slim pricing.

P.S.: to anyone who has e-mailed me at my work address
([EMAIL PROTECTED]), I've been home sick the last couple days and
unable to access my work email. Thank goodness I have a laptop, or I
wouldn't be able to get into this little tech tussle from my bed.
