Thanks guys for the info on my Tamron 28-300. I got it primarily to use for getting photos of my son's high school band. This is his first year as a high school band director and I think the 28-300 should be good for both football and concerts. It is slow at 6.3 on the long end, but I've got the option of 1600 or 3200 ASA on the *istD. The zoom lock is superfluous as mine only locks at 28mm, but there's no problem with zoom creep without it.
