As discussed in the context of that link, that may not be 22-bit A/D in 
the way that some (most?) people will think, just using as much as 22 
bits internally (to make absolutely sure no information is lost) in a 
circuit that may be thought of as a "replacement with extras" for the 
current A/D, and that may not actually output more than 12 bits - 
although 14 was also suggested.

But maybe you should add the features of that chip to the speculations 
list, i.e. per-pixel gain&offset and perhaps some more...
