I was in a professional girl-photographers studio that day. The lamps could hardly be moved at all. The photographer himself is using this set-up for most girl-shots (he sells photographs, sometimes for as much as 5000 USD for one frame). Ordinary people (non phototogs) look at the models features - not light and shadow.
As I was his guest I did not dare to move the lamps. All I could do was try to create some shadow by turning the model, using a hat etc. I was trying to "through" some shadow in her face - just in order to avoid making the whole thing look like an ordinary pass port shot. What I am looking for is Attitude, Sex Appeal, Expression etc. Not photographic excellence, what ever that is. Photography is often about feelings. Not technical excellence. Even though tecnical excellence is appreciated by some - even by me :-) In this respect I believe I did rather well, cosidering I'm only a beginner in "girl photography, photographing real models.This was my second shooting of this kind. Most people only notice the PICTURE if its' really very bad. I believe I have said so before and I believe this is in fact very often the case.
