Surely, the K100D has manual focus assist, too? OK, it doesn't come with
a split-image screen or anything like that (although you may be able to
fit one designed for a different camera), but on other Pentax AF
cameras, the in-focus indicator of the AF system will work with manual
focus lenses, too, and (even better), when AF is enabled, the shutter
button won't actually fire the shutter unless (or until) the subject is
in focus. So you may "auto-focus" a manual lens by keeping the button
depressed, then *slowly* turning the focus ring, or moving the camera
to/from the subject, or letting the subject move; the camera will fire
at the point where focus is reached.

This mechanism is often referred to as "snap-in" or "trap" focus, and
can be very useful indeed. I'm not sure you get it on other brands of
cameras. Some people say it is not accurate enough to shoot wide-open
with high-aperture lenses, but you should be quite all-right with your
zooms.
