I used to use the blinkies, but then turned the feature off. While I rarely
look at the LCD screen these days, when the blinkies were on and i did
look, it was distracting.

Just go out and bracket some exposures and all will become perfectly clear.
However, you may want to consider the software you're using, and your skill
in using it.  With PS CS and PS CS2 there are options that may not be
available in other programs, so, to a certain extent, you have to shoot
within the limits of what you can do in post processing.
